Psalm 17:15 (NET, 2nd Ed.)
15 As for me, because I am innocent I will see your face;
when I awake you will reveal yourself to me.
Jeremiah 31:10-14 (NET, 2nd Ed.)
10 Listen to the LORD’s message, O nations.
Proclaim it in the faraway lands along the sea.
Say, “The one who scattered Israel will regather them.
He will watch over his people like a shepherd watches over his flock.”
11 For the LORD will rescue the descendants of Jacob.
He will secure their release from those who had overpowered them.
12 They will come and shout for joy on Mount Zion.
They will be radiant with joy over the good things the LORD provides,
the grain, the fresh wine, the olive oil,
the young sheep, and the calves he has given to them.
They will be like a well-watered garden
and will not grow faint or weary any more.
13 The LORD says, “At that time young women will dance and be glad.
Young men and old men will rejoice.
I will turn their grief into gladness.
I will give them comfort and joy in place of their sorrow.
14 I will provide the priests with abundant provisions.
My people will be filled to the full with the good things I provide.”
Luke 15:20 (NET, 2nd Ed.)
20 So he got up and went to his father. But while he was still a long way from home his father saw him, and his heart went out to him; he ran and hugged his son and kissed him.
John 3:16-21 (NET, 2nd Ed.)
16 For this is the way God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world should be saved through him. 18 The one who believes in him is not condemned. The one who does not believe has been condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God. 19 Now this is the basis for judging: that the light has come into the world and people loved the darkness rather than the light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone who does evil deeds hates the light and does not come to the light, so that their deeds will not be exposed. 21 But the one who practices the truth comes to the light, so that it may be plainly evident that his deeds have been done in God.
With Calvin, we see that we can find true satisfaction in God. Here on earth we can maybe find momentary contentment or happiness, but with God we can find eternal satisfaction.
With Spurgeon, we see that we are the prodigal sons of the house of God. And yet, even though we ran away from Him, the moment we came back at His calling he came running for us.
