Bible Reading Plan Overview

I wanted to put together a quick overview to point people to when I get a chance to talk about how I structure daily reading. You can see the plan itself here.

The gist of it is the following:

  1. The Old Testament is read through once in its entirety throughout the year.

  2. The New Testament is read through thrice in its entirety throughout the year. Once every 90 days.

  3. The Psalms are read through each month, with Psalms outlined for each day.

  4. The Proverbs are read through each month, with a chapter a day.

This is mostly a reworking of the "1662 Book of Common Prayer" (an Anglican Book) daily office lectionary. It follows a similar schedule but skips 1st and 2nd Chronicles, Song of Solomon, most of Ezekiel, and the book of Revelation. It also reads through the Gospels and the Epistles simultaneously, so you end up reading three to four different books a day which can be hard to follow along with in my experience.

I'm also working through the Heidelberg Catechism each week. Combining these two things (reading plan and catechism) gets my wife and I in and through scripture routinely while helping us nail down and keep the core doctrines of the faith top of mind.
